Romanian contemporary art in Malmö
Between 4-6 November 2008, the Masters programme in Critical Studies at the Malmö Art Academy (Lund University) hosted a series of presentations and seminars on Romanian contemporary art and the subject of the archive as cultural, artistic, and research initiative. Thus, we started on 4 November with a presentation of project RO_ARCHIVE by Raluca Ionescu, an artist talk with Alexandra Croitoru and a lecture on Vector Association activities and Periferic 8 Biennial: Art as Gift – by Catalin Gheorghe and Cristian Nae. The following days, we invited students to a seminar by Catalin Gheorghe on “Art as experimental journalism - editorial practice and artistic reporting in recent Romanian art” on November 5th and a seminar by Cristian Nae on “The Question of the Archive in Recent Romanian Art: Attitudes, Strategies, Motivations” on our last day in Malmo. We wish to thank our host – the Masters programme in Critical Studies at the Malmö Art Academy (Lund University), coordinated by critic and curator Simon Sheikh. These events were made possible by pRO_ARCHIVE, cultural project run by the Bucharest National University of Arts and its partner Vector Association, and funded by the Romanian Ministry of Culture through Promocult 2008 – programme for the promotion of Romanian contemporary art in the European Union.
